Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized reducing fossil fuel imports to curb pollution effectively. Speaking at the 'Times Drive Green Conclave & Awards 2024' event, Gadkari said there is great potential for developing a bio-fuel economy in the country. The transport sector accounts for as much as 40 percent of the nation's air pollution, he said and elaborated that there is a strong need for alternative fuel alternatives to develop a sustainable model.

Bio-Fuel Economy and Transport Sector

Gadkari spoke on challenges in the agriculture sector by pointing to surplus wheat, rice, and sugar. He informed that the government's strategic choice was to take diversification in agriculture in the energy sector. The bio-CNG from the rice straw has been produced in as many as 400 projects in the Punjab, Haryana, and Maharashtra that reduce straw burning pollution.

Economic Growth and Government Initiative

Talking about India's fast-paced economic growth, Gadkari stated that India is the world's fastest-growing major economy. He again reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to make India a 5 trillion-dollar economy. The second goal of Gadkari is to make India's automobile industry the best in the world.

Environmental and Economic challenges

The comments by the minister are well-rounded as they tackle issues of pollution and economic concerns. He suggests sustainable and innovative ways of doing things in both the transport and agriculture sectors. He encourages the use of bio-fuels and technological progress that would ensure India minimizes the consumption of fossil fuels, increases clean air, and increases economic activities. Gadkari's vision falls within the larger objectives of national sustainability and economic development; his words, therefore, require teamwork and strategic planning.
