The Bureau of Indian Standards, through notifications issued on 27th February 2025 and 4th March 2025, has declared numerous alterations, the withdrawal of outdated standards and establishments of new ones. These amendments cover an extensive range of industries, such as environmental management, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology.
In this fast evolving global market, industry standards are important to confirm stability, quality, and reliability. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) often revises, updates, or withdraws standards to imitate changes in technology, environmental needs, and business practices. For meeting all the requirements of this standard BIS certification is necessary, it ensures the safety and quality of the product. The most current amendments, as notified on 27th February 2025 and 4th March 2025, consist of updates on environmental management systems, health equipment specifications, material flow cost accounting, and other substantial standards. These upgrades reflect India’s commitment to improving manufacturing practices, confirming better quality control and keeping pace with international standards.

Withdrawals of Standards
With the establishment of new standards, BIS has replaced old and older standards. These standards are part of a current effort to update and replace outdated practices with relevant and up-to-date strategies. Some of the key standards being withdrawn are:
- Environmental Management Performance Evaluation: IS/ISO 14031:1999 will be withdrawn in favour of IS 14031:2025, which revises the guidelines for environmental performance evaluation, therefore replicating more present environmental management practices.
- Geography Mark-up Language (GML): IS 16626:2017 and IS 16626 (Part 1):2025 replace the elder version, IS 16626:2007, making the data exchange process in geographic information systems (GIS) more effective and future-ready.
- Medical Equipment Standards: The older forms of the medical electrical equipment standards, IS/IEC 60336:2005, are being withdrawn in favour of IS 18443:2025, which presents new provisions for X-ray tube assemblies.
- Industrial Chemicals and Materials: A number of industrial materials and chemicals standards are being withdrawn and replaced with newer versions that reflect progressions in materials science and construction techniques.
