FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standard Authority of India; it has been established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food-related issues in various Ministries and Departments.

Act aims to establish a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, by moving from multi-level, multi-departmental control to a single line of command. Act establishes an independent statutory Authority – the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with its head office at Delhi. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the State Food Safety Authorities shall enforce various provisions of the Act.

FSSAI has categorised licenses on the business turnover basis in categories:

• Basic registration
• State License
• Central license

But there are some conditions under which the Food business unit has to seek a central license. These conditions are:

• When the food business is dealing in the Import business related to a food item
• When the food  business is dealing in the Export business related to a food item
• When the food business is dealing in selling of food products online
• If your business is dealing in a franchise model then you have to take a central license for your head office and for branches on the basis of their turnover.
• Food Catering Services in establishments and units under central government Agencies like defence etc.
• Carrying on the business of Storage, wholesaling, Retailing and Distribution under central government agencies.
•  Food Catering services in establishments and units under Central Government Agencies like air and airport, Seaports etc
• Carrying on the business of Storage, wholesaling, Retailing and Distribution at seaports located at Kandla, Tuticorin, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Marmagoa Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, JNPT Or Airport located Kolkata, Tiruchy, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Amritsar, Cochin, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Ahmedabad.

List of documentation changes according to license category:

For Basic registration documents required:

• Photograph of Proprietor/ Partner/Director
• ID proof Of Proprietor/ Partner/Director (PAN/Aadhar)
• Address proof of business address (Electricity bill/ rent agreement etc)

For State/Central License documents required in the case of Manufacturing business;

• ID & Address proof of Directors/Partners/Proprietor (Aadhar card/PAN card/ Passport)
• BluePrint of manufacturing unit
• Address proof of business/manufacturing unit (Electricity bill/ Rent agreement etc)
• List of machinery along with no of capacity installed with horse consumption
• IEC (in case the manufacturer is willing to do business of import or export business)
• Photograph of machinery installed, business unit (from inside and outside)
• Water analysis report (if manufacturing involves water use)
• Partnership deed/Self-declaration for Proprietorship/ MOA, AOA & COI of company
• Turnover proof (Balance sheet) (if the business crosses the prescribed turnover limit)

For State/ Central License documents required in case of another kind of business:

• ID & Address proof of Directors/Partners/Proprietor (Aadhar card/PAN card/ Passport)
• Address proof of business/manufacturing unit (Electricity bill/ Rent agreement etc)
• Partnership deed/Self-declaration for Proprietorship/ MOA, AOA & COI of company
• IEC (in case the business is willing to do trading of import or export )
• Turnover proof (Balance sheet) (if the business crosses the prescribed turnover limit)

A few more documents are required as per the kind of business:

• NOC & copy of the license from the manufacturer (in case of relabeling lear and repacker)
• Source of raw material for meat and meat processing plant (whenever applicable)
• Certificate provided by the Ministry of Tourism (HRACC) (Mandatory for Hotels only)
• For  transporters-supporting documentary proof for turnover or self-declaration of the number of vehicles  (mandatory for transporter)

Any concerned person can apply for the license simply by doing login on the FSSAI site and uploading the required and desired documents as the need of form and making the payment for the license.

How to apply

• STEP 1: Call Corpseed

• STEP 3: Share your document as per the checklist and your project will be forwarded to the delivery department
• STEP 4: The delivery team may contact you and get a set of additional information which may be required for processing the license.
• STEP 5: The delivery team may forward you the form for verification before making the payment of the license fee.
• STEP 6: After your consent, the form will be uploaded and the fee will be paid.

• STEP 8: After the issue of the license soft copy as well as the hard copy of the license will be sent to you.
