History of AYUSH

The Ministry of AYUSH was formed on 9th November 2014 to ensure the optimal development and propagation of AYUSH health care systems. Earlier it was known as the Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H) which was created in March 1995 and renamed as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) in November 2003, which focused attention for the development of Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.

If you are interested in Ayurveda medicine manufacturing or Herbal License, you have to take a license from AYUSH, but if you are only dealing with selling Ayurveda medicine you don’t require an AYUSH license also. To set up an Ayurveda clinic and panchakarma centre, you need to be a registered Ayurveda practitioner.

• To upgrade the educational standards of Indian Systems of Medicines and Homeopathy colleges in the country.

• Yoga Instructor License

Which includes or advertises, unani therapies & principles with yoga, meditation & herbal medicines. 

• Siddha Medicine Practitioner License

Siddha Medicine Practitioner License is for those, who have completed & acquired the degree in Siddha Medicine. Which is a traditional system of medicine hailing from South India. 

• Homoeopathic Practitioner License

Homoeopathy is a household name everywhere, which specialises in stimulating the natural healing process of the human body. As a result, a homeopathic practitioner License is obtained by all those, who have obtained a recognised degree in Homeopathy.

The manufacturing of Ayurveda medication must be conducted under the direction and oversight of competent technical employees consisting of a minimum of 1 person, who is a permanent employee of the company and possesses a minimum of any qualification as described below: -

• A Degree in Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Siddha, Herbal or Unani systems of medicine from an authorized university or college or
• A Diploma in Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Siddha or Unani systems of medicine from an authorized university or college or
• A graduate in Pharmacy or Chemistry Botany from a recognised university with experience of minimum 2 years in the manufacturing of ayurvedic drugs or
• A Vaid or Hakim registered in a State Register of Practitioners of Medicines having experience of at least four years in the manufacturing of Ayurvedic drugs
• Qualification as a Pharmacist in Ayurvedic (including Siddha) or Unani systems of medicine, having experience of at least eight years in the manufacturing of Ayurvedic medicine.

• The area of the manufacturing unit should be not less than 1285 sq. ft.
• DMR Act [The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954]
• Product information (what are the products going to be manufactured)
• Form of product [in what format (tablets/liquid/powder) product going to be manufacturing)
• Directors (related to the herbal domain) will be preferable
• GST Certificate
• Aadhaar and PAN Card of Authorized Person
• GMP Certificate
• Layout Plan
