EPR Credit Model is prescribed in the waste management rules and implemented by the Central Pollution Control Board for the producers to fulfil EPR obligations with flexibility. It allows producers to exchange EPR Certificates with other producers if their EPR liabilities are fulfilled already. In this system, the waste doesn't need to be collected by the exact producer who produced it. During its lifetime, a product travels through regions, and it’s not practical for it to be collected and disposed of by the same producer who produced it. It gets collected by someone else and recycled, but its producer also needs to fulfil his EPR obligation. EPR Credit Model facilitates this distribution of EPR obligations among the producers, where one can sell his EPR Credit earned by recycling a product to another producer.
The EPR Credit Model, by the CPCB, allows producers to exchange EPR Certificates if their EPR liabilities are fulfilled. It enables flexible distribution of EPR obligations among the producers and promotes the establishment of recycling facilities that can sell EPR Credits after collecting different types of waste.
