BIS - IS 7328:2020 is an Indian Standard for polyethylene materials. It covers:
- High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
- Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
- Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE)
The above materials have significant usage in packing, construction, and agriculture. There are some important properties of critical interest, including density and melt flow index (MFI). These would be good quality tough materials. The standard mentions some testing methods for density, melt flow index (MFI), and strength. Proper packaging and labeling of polyethylene products also need to be considered. IS 7328:2020 encourages the use of recycled polyethylene.
It reduces wastage and saves the environment. The standard encourages environmentally friendly practices in various industries. It emphasizes safety and environment-friendliness in polyethylene materials, as well.
What is Polyethylene?
Polyethylene is a versatile widely used plastic polymer. It is ethylene-based composition, durable, elastic, and resistant to water, and chemicals. Chemical resistance is excellent.
There are several grades of polyethylene. Each grade has its own characteristics. The features of polyethylene make it widely applicable. Film, sheets, tubing, pipes, and containers are common applications. Polyethylene is applied widely in industries due to its merits.
