The Puducherry Pollution Control Committee (PPCC) has been in operation in the Union Territory of Puducherry from 1st of April,1992. It belongs to the Department of Science, Technology, and the Environment as a statutory body. The PPCC recognised the significance of safeguarding the U.T.'s delicate ecosystem and upholding the laws and regulations governing environmental protection. By building a common facility, PPCC is working with private entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to develop a lasting solution. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and counteract ongoing climate change, PPCC supports industry to switch from traditional technology to Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). In addition to adopting command and control policies, PPCC also offers consulting, lobbying, and best practises technology dissemination.
- The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has supported the Environmental Information System (ENVIS), which is also being hosted by PPCC.
- In partnership with NGOs, PPCC conducts a number of environmental awareness programmes, such as the World Environment Day celebration and Earth Hour.
- Public hearings are held by PPCC for projects covered by the Environment Protection Act of 1986.
