EPR Portal for Used Oil Management Launched by CPCB
The Central Pollution Control Board has launched an EPR portal, a significant leap into the future of environmental governance for India. This online platform, mandated by the Second Amendment, Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2023, will bring a sea change in the handling and recycling of used oils pan-India with effect from April 1, 2024.

The EPR portal stipulates a prerequisite for the registration of producers of base oil and lubrication oil, together with importers of used oil. They have to conform very strictly to the recycling targets set by the CPCB. This has been the structural setting within which used oils are handled to safeguard public health and the environment from potential risks.
