Siddha word came from a Tamil word which means perfection or achievement. Originating from South India, it is an ancient system of medicine and healing. As per popular belief, the Siddha system of medicine is divine in origin.
The treatment is aimed at restoring balance to the mind-body-spirit system. Siddha lays equal emphasis on the body, mind, and spirit and strives to restore complete harmony to the various psychological and physiological functions of the body. In Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, diet and lifestyle (pathya and apathya) play a major role in correcting body-mind balance, curing diseases, and maintaining health. Kayakarpam, Varmam, and Thokkanam are the main therapies used in Siddha.
This system of medicine places more importance on preventing diseases than curing them known as Pini Anugaa Vidhi.
The remedies recommended by Siddha have been verified through scientific research. It is accepted to be highly effective in treating diseases of the:

About AYUSH
The Ministry of AYUSH was formed in 9th November 2014 to ensure the optimal development and propagation of AYUSH systems of health care. Earlier it was known as the Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H) which was created in March 1995 and renamed as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) in November 2003, which focused attention for the development of Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
If you are interested in ayurvedic medicine manufacturing, you have to take a license from AYUSH, but if you are only dealing with selling of ayurvedic medicine you don’t require an AYUSH license. Also, for setting up an Ayurvedic clinic and panchakarma center, you need to be a registered Ayurvedic practitioner.
Objectives:
- To upgrade the educational standards of Indian Systems of Medicines and Homeopathy colleges in the country.
- To strengthen existing research institutions and to ensure a time-bound research program on identified diseases for which these systems have an effective treatment.
- To draw up schemes for promotion, cultivation and regeneration of medicinal plants used in these systems.
- To evolve Pharmacopoeial standards for Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy drugs
