After the Orissa Legislative Assembly passed the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the Odisha State Prevention and Control of Pollution Board was established in accordance with subsection (1) of Section- 4 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 1974, dated 16.07.1999, issued by the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Orissa, the Board was renamed as the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha. The Water and Air Acts precisely describe the Board's duties, which can be largely divided into three categories: enforcement, advisory, and monitoring, as well as research, public awareness-building, and facilitation.
The OSPCB in Odisha controls pollution from industries. It was created when the state passed laws about water and air pollution in 1974 and 1981. This was done as per a specific section of the 1974 Water Pollution Act.
