Climate Commitments by India
PM Modi said that India is the first G20 country to fulfill commitments as per the Paris Agreement before schedule. The Prime Minister mentioned the Varanasi Action Plan adopted at the New Delhi G20 summit, accelerating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, he welcomed Brazil's presidency by having enshrined these goals and reiterated India's initiatives International Solar Alliance, One World-One Sun-One Grid, and the Global Bio-Fuel Alliance, as well on their way to ensuring a sustainable future.
Mission LiFE and Green Transition
In his address, Modi launched Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which is a new initiative to be undertaken in the global pursuit of sustainable lifestyles. He pointed out that over the past ten years, India had constructed housing for more than 40 million families and provided a clean water supply to 120 million households in the last five years. This is India's realization of a "green transition" and has been characterized as a movement of the people, with citizens enrolled in sustainability.
Global Cooperation and Future Targets
This vision speech by the Prime Minister also talked about India's role in the global fight against climate, asking for greater international cooperation, although he asked for technology transfer and financial aid specifically from developed countries, much needed for developing countries that hope to meet their climate targets.
