The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has announced an important update to the Vinyl Acetate Monomer (Quality Control) Order, 2021. The amendment, known as the Vinyl Acetate Monomer (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, was published on April 1, 2025. The change is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and quality of chemical products in India.

Date of Implementation

The amendment updates the original order by extending the deadline for its implementation. While the previous order was to take effect immediately, the new change moves the enforcement date to March 31, 2026. The Vinyl Acetate Monomer QCO will give manufacturers and industry player’s additional time to comply with regulations. The move is expected to give companies enough time to complete the necessary requirements, including obtaining the necessary BIS registration for their products.

Importance of BIS Registration for Manufacturers

Under the updated order, all manufacturers of Indian Standard IS 12345:1988 that is for vinyl acetate monomer will have to ensure that their products meet the required quality standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Obtaining BIS certification is crucial for manufacturers looking to gain credibility in the market. BIS certification ensures that products adhere to specific safety and quality standards, which ultimately helps protect consumers.

The new order emphasizes the need for proper documentation and certification procedures. Manufacturers who are yet to obtain their BIS certificate or BIS registration must do so before the deadline to avoid disruption to their operations. The government aims to ensure that only high-quality and safe products are available on the market, benefiting both businesses and consumers. The government’s decision to extend the deadline is seen as a positive step to help businesses transition to updated quality control standards.
