Scanners are also electronic devices with various electrical components. This is why the list of electrical and electronic equipment contains them for e-waste rules. Scanners are classified as information technology and telecommunication equipment. These devices use electrical power to work and hence contain various components that are dangerous for the environment. For this reason, the scanner producers need to obtain EPR Authorisation for scanners from the central pollution control board before manufacturing this equipment. EPR policy further prescribes that producers process the e-waste every year equivalent to the products placed by such producers in the last year.
